Ewww...Hobbytown? I remember when I used to go to those...nothing but car nuts...The net can be cheaper and there are many sites, but at least try to compare the cost of going to the hobby store, or getting it online...online is usually cheaper, but the shipping might make it more expensive...The only real advantage for online stores is that they usually carry loads of AM items, unlike most all stores like Hobbytown, which carry mainly kits that are pretty much OOTB...their only after market items are probably new car bodies and bigger battery packs or something like that lol...

also, there's always Ebay...at least as far as getting some decent prices...

I honestly think that you should stick to Tamiya and Italeri stuff for the time being...developing building skills is real imporant, as well as painting and weathering and learning about all that good stuff...there are other brands that are very good, if not much better, like DML (their prices have been going up for a while now), AFV Club (relatively expensive) and Tristar (relatively expensive as well), but it might be best to start with easier kits...
