Hi,

I'm the first to answer...
... and i think you're right. The main focus of most websites is on the newest and greatest kits. Obviously older kits/figs do not to attract much interest from modelers after a while. Apart from the kits you mentioned another good example are Dragon figs. Everything that is not Gen2 seems outdated, even if it was released 1-2 years ago.

I started modeling in those (not so good old) days in the 80ies when the number of kits released per year was the same as today's monthly output by some companies. Back then it was easy to keep up and buy and build nearly everything that you were interested in. Today that's impossible, unless you have a lot of money and time and want to become a modelling nerd who is not interested in anything else in life.

This development also reflects on the web, everything is about newest kits and what will be the next model a company brings out. When you're building a certain version of a tank or a vehicle, you can be sure that before you've finished, another two versions will be released.
My problem is that this gives me the feeling that I'm always behind, building a kit that is already dated the day it was released.
The other day I talked to a shop owner and he had concerns what will be in 10 years. Looking at the number of new German kits released every year, the day will come when there will be simple no more new topics that are worth producing.

So probably modeling is also a mirror of modern life and society: faster, newer, short-lived. My opinion: "Yes, things are coming out to fast." Speed kills!

greetings, Lukas
