Bob - since I posted in that thread Charles linked to, and I am a "gun truck" modeler, here's my comments:

"Guntruck" is my callsign on Armorama/KitMaker Network. "GunTruck" is also part of my hobby business - GunTruck Studios. There is no such thing as a "guntruck" - all one word outside of how I use it.

Gun Trucks were US Army and some US Marine Corps cargo trucks converted to carry heavy weapons and armor plating during the Vietnam War, in effort to defend supply convoys from increasingly devastating VietCong attacks. The Army at the time did not have enough patrol vehicles to protect long convoy trains, and the 'Truckers took it upon themselves to first carry weapons for self-defense, then some minor armor plating to protect the drivers and armed crew - to elaborately armor plated and armed trucks that were no longer cargo carriers.

The only other vehicles that it is "correct" to call Gun Trucks are the modern versions fielded by the US Army in Iraq and the mid-1980's version used by the US Army in Haiti - as these trucks were borne from the same source and for the same mission as the Vietnam era cargo trucks.

Just because a truck mounts a weapon - does not make it a Gun Truck.

I feel as serious about this as I feel it is incorrect to label all Facial Tissue as "Kleenex" - which is a brand name, or all carbonated sodas as "Coke" - which is another brand name, as I mentioned in that thread. It's as wrong as calling a Chaffee a Patton Tank - but the concern seems to get lost with frivolity, which is ironic when it comes to scale AFV modeling where the differences between Panzer IV D and C are pretty darned important. Modelers help keep history alive...

Sorry if it seems I'me ranting - I'll go to my corner now...
