As a review "consumer" I greatly appreciate a thorough and well researched review. I don't have the money for a properly stocked library for every vehicle I'm interested in so they're a tremendous help to me.
I like a review that strives to both find errors and demonstrate them. I like to draw my own conclusions as to the seriousness of a problem from illustrations supporting the reviewer's observations.
IIB reviews are good topic starters on a forum but they're not all that helpful. I've bought more than one kit based on IIB or deliberately biased reviews in the past. No more. Some kits I bought back in 1997 when I first got into this as a serious hobby come to mind. I can count the # of reviewers I'll use to help make a purchasing decision on a lumberjack's right hand now.
From my personal perspective a good review will:
Demonstrate how accurate overall dimensions are.
Identify kit strengths and weaknesses
Identify errors and fit problems
Review kit markings
Site references
Write to a broad audience. The best reviewers out there write in a style that is useful to all types of modelers: from the obsessive detailer to the casual builder.
Just my 2 cents. |
