Subject:  Tamiya 1/16 Kubelwagen Type 82 Afrika KorpsList thread.

Hi guys,

I picked up the Tamiya 1/16 Kubelwagen Type 82 Afrika Korps kit yesterday.
All I can say is wow, Tamiya did a very nice job on the 1/16 Kubel. Its
definitely not just a scaled up version of their 1/35 kit. There are ten
sprues holding 250 pieces, 5 tires and & screw bag. Here are some highlights
of the kit:

- three piece headlights with clear lenses behind the covers.
- choice of clear of opaque tail light lenses
- 'glass' for speedometer
- twenty-six piece engine/tranny that includes valve rod tubes. No spark
boot detail on the shrouds though, but easy to add.
- detailed front end suspension including steering box.
- folding windscreen
- three piece Notek light
- 'rubber' desert tires
- detailed hubs so you can leave off a wheel or two
- excellent driver figure and the already released Rommel figure is included
as well.
- top down only.

BTW, HLJ's description says it has fuctional suspension. It does not, but
does have positionable steering.

Since the Rommel figure can be had separately, someone mentioned that it
would have been nice to exclude him and reduce the kit price. I tend to
argee, but

The instructions even include figure painting, washing and drybrushing how
tos. And tree diagrams, something usually absent in their more recent kits.

I hope Tamiya have plans to add a non-Desert Kubelwagen, Schwimmwagen and
Willys Jeep to the 1/16 'Big Tank Series'

Can't wait to get started. Anyone want to buy a Kirin 1/16 Kubelwagen? Just
kidding :-)

Ken
