Subject:  How is a kit any different?List thread.

 Date:  Jun 25, 2006
 From:  Ken Hartlen
The kit box is of parts where most are actually complex components moulded as one part.

I always find it odd the one tries to draw a line in the sand of who are the evildoers ("assemblers") and who are the righteous ("builders").

A model kit is nothing more that a 3-D paint by numbers set with some assembly required. And there are some people who handle an X-Acto, cement, and paint better than the majority for an improved result.

The manufactures know what they're selling:

Tamiya: "Ready to assemble precision model kit"
Dragon: "Unassembled model kit"
Academy: "Contains one unassembled model kit"
Italeri: "Maquette Plastique a Assembler"
Revell-AG: "An unassembled plastic model kit"
Aoshima box: "Ready to assemble precision model kit"
Revellogram: "Model cement required for assembly"

The horror... the horror!!

Unless your workbench is covered with line drawings and your "parts" are bins of raw materials, your are an "assembler".

Happy assembling...

Ken
