| Don't actually work in the industry, but from what I've gleaned over the years, older kits were manufactured in stainless steel molds which were extremely durable. However, I've read that the new computer-designed molds from the Far East use copper tooling, a far softer material, so it is reasonable to assume that they will wear out faster. So they may need to be replaced (or discarded) in a relatively short time, whereas the Revell and Monogram molds from the 1950's still look pretty good. |
