I know how injection moulding works from the bottom. There are plenty of checks and balances that are supposed to prevent 'faulty' parts reaching the customer. However there are many ways the machine operator can circumvent these balances IF THEY ARE ALLOWED TO.
Gassing, shorts, sink, bloom, flow lines, contamination and flash? These are sorted initialy by the man running the machine. He decides what is good and what is bad.
Most automotive parts are supplied by moulding firms who in turn supply bigger assembly firms who then supply the car makers. Some of these moulding firms can be fairly small.
Where I worked flash was a fault but then it was a question as to how big the flash was. Perfection is fine but in high volume moulding runs sometimes you have to make a compromise or you would never make a 'good' part.
I never said that faults are the norm or that it is a big problem but any firm that lets these faults through clearly has quality control problems or depends on the average plastic kit purchaser not recognising a fault even when they see it.
