Christophe,
Clearly, in your mind there is a problem. So let's look at what the problem
could be. If Jeff didn't respond to you I see these as possible causes:
A. His email doesn't work.
B. He simply doesn't like you.
C. He read your article and didn't like it and does not wish to embarrass
you.
D. He can't type and the 100 chimps that he placed in a room with
typewriters haven't yet come up with a response.
E. Jeff is an incompetent moron who can't remember to tie his own shoes.
F. Jeff's own workload is too great and he just hasn't had time to get back
to you.
These are all that I can come up with. Now, knowing Jeff personally and
seeing that you are obviously a smart gentleman with plenty of knowledge to
write about, I figure the following:
A. I know his email works because occasionally I get a response from him,
though never when I'd hoped.
B. I'm not sure if you have ever met Jeff but I am sure that this couldn't
be the reason, you both seem like nice guys and I know that Jeff is
extremely easy to get along with.
C. I'm quite sure that your article is well written and would fit in well
with Boresight readers.
D. Jeff hates animals (his car bumper sticker says "I aim at all four legged
creatures"), and his office is too small anyway.
E. I know Jeff well, and his shoes are always tied (though they are
sometimes one shoe and one sneaker).
E. This leaves the last option. This is probably also the most reasonable
one. So, if we accept it as factual, we can move forward. What can we do?
The only option I see is to get someone to help Jeff. Do you or anyone else
know of someone who would like to help Jeff? You would have to have
publishing experience because the magazine has to be put together every
other month, on time (unlike other magazines). You will have to handle all
of the mailing each two months as well, since the large distribution houses
will not handle Boresight as it is considered in conflict with their own
magazines. You will have to handle the advertising as well. You will have to
read every article that comes in and decide what should and shouldn't go in
each issue. You will have to work out artwork from the local clubs who look
to get their own advertising in regarding shows and things. You will have to
be able to work with Jeff in his office as it would be very difficult to do
over the Internet. You may also have to help out as Treasurer, because Jeff
also does that job for the club. And finally, you have to do it all for
nothing. Well, you will have the reward of hearing from people who don't get
responses to their emails ;-)
So, until this savior steps forward, it looks like we might have to put up
with an occasional lack of response and accept the situation as it is. I
personally thank the good Lord above for Jeff McKaughan. Whether he answers
your email or not, he does an incredible job every two months. I wish more
people would write to him and thank him. you may not get a response, but you
can be sure it would be appreciated. I am sorry that you feel so strongly
about this subject and that you feel personally ignored. I would have hoped
that you understand what is really happening here and work to alleviate the
problem. AMPS is on the brink of becoming the most important armor related
club in the world. The success of this years show should be a real wake up
call to every member. We need people to step up and help. This can only work
if a whole bunch of people get involved.
Okay, you can be Frank, and I'll be Earnest, but I'm not brutal! ;-)
