I don't know if I'm in the minority or not, but I generally build right to the limit of what I can make, accuracy wise. If there's a bolt "there" then I put one there. I have a ton of research material on the stuff that interests me and I try to use it to make the best miniature representation of the vehicle I can. I hate painting, so finish means nothing to me (although I do alright in that regard, I just don't like it). I like to build. To scratchbuild anything that's not "right" and to take the time to find out what's not right and to make it so.

My calipers and my dremel are my best friends and I use them on every model I take the time to do "right".

Now, this can and does result in some hellaciously long builds, but that's how I get my kicks, so I don't mind. Occasionally I'll build an SF kit for mindless fun and I recently built that Suez M47 pretty much out of the box (although it was tough not fixing things I found were not to "spec".

_I_ am a rivet counter! There, I said it out loud. I'm "out" and I'm proud of it!

:-)
