I also use 2 NiMH AAs in my FinePix E900 and its nice to have the Alkline option in a pinch.
I picked the FinePix E900 because of the ability to override auto settings and control shutter speed (15s - 1/2000s), aperature (F2.8-F8), ISO 80-800, etc., etc. The idea being that this could be the stepping stone to jumping to a DSLR if I like the SLR-like control.
The E900 has made me more of a shutter bug than I ever expected. I've taken ~900 pix since late-May and only took ~1200 pix in the two years I had my FinePix A203. Getting a DSLR, like the new 10MP Nikon D80, is becoming a very real possiblity.
So far I've been just experimenting with the camera on mostly non-modelling subjects:

As for modelling pix, I need to put together a deticated setup so I don't have to be clearing the workbench or looking for an available table top.
I love the 4x optical zoom with the 9 mega pixels which will come in handy for model pix. Great for macro shots
