Unless they're really, really fiddly, the domain of assorted handles and dangly things remains brass rod or, if they're really small, wire.

I've got brass rod, bought from the usual sources, for Manly Tank Handles. However, I've also discovered that copper wire, which you can buy at ludicrously low prices from online stores that specialize in making your own jewelery, in sizes from about 1mm down to hair thin and selling in spools contaning a lifetime supply for a few bucks, is great if you need something really malleable and it's not going to get beaten up too much. Example - those grab handles that follow the curve of Soviet tank turrets. I roll out a length of appropriate thickness copper wire until it's straight then bend it against the appropriate part of the turret (bearing in mind that it'll be a little out from the surface, so you need a longer length than you would otherwise). Then just use your favorite bending tool to bend the ends through 90 degrees, instant curved grab handles that follow the hull precisely.

Not used them for light guards yet, but probably good for this too - anywhere that you want metal rod to follow a curve and brass is a little bit too rigid.
