I have gotten to the point where I use about half of a photo etch set any more. One thing that I get frustrated about is the diffrent manufacturers doing things that don't need to be done in photo etch. Such as nuts, bolts, and my biggest peave is grab handles or any other item on the real thing that has a round cross section. to me when I put a PE grab handle on that is very clearly a flat piece of metal it in no way whatsoever looks right. Also when they give you a PE piece that is worse than the kit piece(mostly the old Eduard sets). And the one that actually makes me mad is when they give you a piece that just will not fit at all. I have noticed that Eduard is terrible about this, mostly in there front and rear mud guards that have been horribly enginered to the point that they don't even fit the other PE pieces in the set they come from. Some of these sets make it clear to me that Eduard never trys to actually use the pieces to see if they work, or they just don't care what it is they are selling to me.

Mostly now I will only use a set of screens and if it's german a set of Aber tool clamps, or buckles if it's not. I have gotten to the point where I can actually make a fair number of my own detail pieces with a nice selection of brass sheet, diffrent foils that I have aquired from an assortment of food containers/covers/lids, and Plastruct rod, strip, bar, angles,I beams, etc. I find it a lot more forgiving (if I make a mistake I have a pack of about 10-20 pieces to try to make another, and it's cheap) and I also get more satisfaction out of making something myself instead of just gluing a pre manufactured piece on. Although sometimes it's nice to just do the latter, I do this hobby because I do enjoy the challenge of making something from just a pile of little bits and pieces.
