I was reading in my "Over-ome" English paper the other day [International Express Aug 29/06] That Airfix has gone bust yet again. The parent company Humbrol, was put into administration, with bosses blaming severe cash flow. With 31 redundancies among 41 staff. Hull UK based Humbrol claimed supply problems with its main manufacturer in France has led to money troubles.
They also claim that the hobby is slow due to more people playing computer games?
Sad as this news comes, I think that it has more to do with the fact that we have come a long way since the Airfix kits of the 60/70s. They have re-issues of most of there old kits but who wants them?
I did pick up there old fire engine, London bus kit a few months back, as My uncle collects fire-engines. I found it over priced for what amounts to a toy, kit. It came in that un-paintable bright red plastic, [that it came out in the 60s] and the bus did not have the WW1 transport option that I remember, and wanted.
The only thing I can say, is start putting away them great 1/32 muti-pose again. As it looks like that's the last of them. |
