Gary,

I agree with you regarding the "average" modeler's level of interest. But I still think including p/e and aluminum barrels is a smart thing, as long as there are reciprocal parts in styrene for those not comfortable with metal. And I agree that the number of parts--particularly indy links--can be very intimidating. I think Dragon realizes this too and is answering it with their "Smart" sets. (Indy links are one of those "be careful what you wish for" examples).

I also think it's great that Tamiya keeps reissuing those old kits because they are perfectly suited for the youngsters to build as well as adults who value simplicity over accuracy.

Now it might be that the Tiger engine set that Tamiya produced bombed and that killed off any further interest in doing their own aftermarket engines or interiors.

On the other hand, Academy has a full interior Tiger. I wonder how well that has sold?

Anyway, all of this is just speculation and conjecture. Who knows, maybe the "big boys" see it as economically viable, but there are even better profits in RC cars and battle Barbies.

Sometimes the big boys are plain wrong, too. Just remember, it was Thomas Watson, who ran IBM, who said people would never want to have a computer in their homes. :-)

Tim
