My wife and I once "bought" all the stock on hand in a Mexican hardware store while on vacation. The only place we had used our CC was supposedly the best and safest restaurant in Puerto Vallarte. We found out about the problem with the next statement, and the CC company corrected our account immediately.
On another occasion, the CC company contacted us in Tennessee to let us know that purchases were being made using our card number in Texas. The only place we had done any business near there was with the web store of a nationally known classical CD stockist.
I've had no CC problems with hobby suppliers, including American, Canadian, Polish, French, German, English, Japanese, Hong Kongian, Singaporian, or Australian. Maybe I'm just luckier than most, but I see no point in being afraid to use my CC. If that ever becomes case, I rather get rid of the thing and use money orders than live in fear.
