To expand on the above, my Dad was recently a victim of credit card fraud. The bank (this was his CHECK card, BTW!) immediately saw that someone in Russia was trying to run his card, and immediately blocked the transaction because:
a) he has never purchased a single thing in Russia
b) had used his card that day (impossible to travel that fast that far in one day)
c) Russia is a "red flag" area (though perhaps not in the *old* ways, heh)
I agree, I use my card for e-shopping all the time. Amazon, FREX, has it on file (making one-click shopping dangerous...). Although there are always risks, that's true anywhere you go (when I worked at a hobby shop, I doubt it would've been too hard to recover the CC numbers from the machine and run them through...). You can either live in fear, or trust that bank institutions have gone through this before and have a process to combat CC fraud...
