Talking to Vets. is one of my main interests, i am from the Uk and have
become involved with my Local Parachute Regiment Association branches. I was
over in Normandy with them this year and will go to Arnhem with them, i also
have many friends who served in so many different branches during WW2. One
inperticular was a Grenadier Guardsman who was recruited into Special Forces
in 1942, he has so many stories of the Intellegence raids prior to D-Day and
the 7 weeks he spent over there after D-Day. One inparticular which moved me
was that he ended up leading the Special forces who took the Castle in Caen
after 9 days close quater fighting, against a mixed bunch of SS soldiers.
The story brings tears to his eyes every time, we have arranged to go over
to Sword Beach and Caen later this year. I have another good friend who is
still is working as an aircraft engineer at the age of 80!! he joined in
1938 and was over in France working on those things with wings that make
alot of noise in 1939, then moved over to North Africa in 1941.
It is a strange fealing talking to all the Veterans that i am friends with,
as they often say, and all that was when i was your age, i am 18.
