On a different topic why do modellers always shoot their work on a blue back drop?

I prefer white as it is truly neutral, gives no color cast to the model and doesn't distract.

But it seems the "normal" technique for modellers is blue.

I equate this model photography to doing a "product shot" (I was a commercial photographer for 8 years) so this may be my bias. Be it a Mercedes Benz, Nike shoe, or the latest iPOD, I always prefer products to be shot on white (or black) totally neautral backdrops.

Just curious why the blue trend started.
