Subject:  What happens to useful molds from old companies?List thread.

After digesting the thoughful replies to my post about getting back to WWII armor and having decided on the Tamiya M4A3 kit as a starting point, I looked through my pile of "stuff" and found two sets of the old MP Authen-I-KIT M4/M4A3 conversions. These and the post on Hinchcliff figures brought a question to mind:

What happens to the molds of companies like MP that go out of business?

Back in the "good old days" there was a company that made a decent German small mortar, the more familiar 88mm mortar and, I think, what were then pretty good .50 MGs and maybe .30s as well. An English company made a very good Lewis-type MG, and there were others in 1/72 scale (for a/c!) as well as these 1/35s. More recently, an English company made a series of Sherman track variations that had plastic pads and metal end connectors - the pads having many fewer shrinkage problems than more recent all plastic sets. Speaking of which, what will happen to the RVHP molds? A short-lived resin company in the US SW Made a set of German MG ammo bags where each bag was differently creased/bent. I'm sure many of you can think of other out of production molds that had worthwhile uses. What happens to them?

Best to all,
CTew
