ARMO IS-2T Model 1944, Soviet recovery tank
Kit # 35517

Once again, Jadar steps up to fill a gap in WWII armor. This is a conversion
kit for all of the IS-II kits currently on the market. Basically, it
converts the IS-2 into the late war recovery vehicle, known as the IS-2T.
The Soviets lost many tanks in the early years of the war due to their lack
of the recovery vehicles. Vehicles that were inherent in many of the WWII
combatants.

Realizing the need for recovery vehicles, outclassed, damaged KV tanks,
where possible, were used. But the KV series drive train problems prevented
widespread use of the vehicle. And the T-34's were still being
used, rebuilt over, and over again, where possible.

With the war winding down, damaged IS heavy tanks were pressed into service
sometime in late 1944. From field modifications, the recovery series was
first standardized as the IS-2T.The first models, like their German
counterparts, were simply turretless versions of operational vehicles. This
kit is more or less the "second" recognized version.

The kit consists of seven resin parts, and a small PE fret. Basically, you
get a round resin sheet that covers
the opening where the turret should be. The aperture has the usual
commanders hatch, with vision slots. And a split hatch on top. There is a
second hatch, that is the "standard" round gunners hatch. There is a single
periscope, and a resin "log" for unditching [in case there is there
somewhere you can't find a real twig to use].

The resin is cast extremely well, in the usual high quality ARMO is now
known for. The PE fret, made by
PART, is also a fine set. It adds a few details to the turret aperture. It
is designed in the style of the Aber sets, there are some really tiny hinges
you have to build. Prepare to go insane. Just be happy that there is only a
single hinge. The rest of the PE fret includes the attachments for the
unditching log. All are of the same high standard PART PE sets are. Part is
right up there with Aber in turning out fine PE sets.

This is one of the easiest conversions in scale modeling. Build the any of
the excellent DML IS-2's, add this kit, and you have a really different AFV.
Okay, you can use the Italieri / Zvezda kit also [but the DML kit is so much
better].

Cheap, easy to build, and unusual, it's a wonder no one did this before.
Recommended for anyone who builds Soviet tanks. These were in use for a long
time, especially in the rear areas. So you can use them right next to your
T-54, or T-55 kit. Highly recommended.

Thank you Jadar for another gap filled. Keep it up.

Now, Jadar, PLEASE make us a great SU-76 kit. And we will make you king!
