Hi John,
Very interesting story. By any chance do you know which version of the M1917 this is? By that I mean armament. Machine gun or cannon? If machine gun, is it the Browning or the Marlin mount? I know this sounds picky but I have a good reason for asking. At the Pennsylvania Military Museum we have what we think is the only Marlin machine gun armed M1917 left in the world. We even have the Marlin machine gun to go with it (another rarity). In our quest to restore it we tried to find all the M1917's left and we think there are less than 2 dozen world wide.Since they are fairly well scattered about we are always on the lookout for any info about new ones.
I have enclosed a photo of our restored M1917. The camo pattern was discoved by the conservators under about three layers of paint and right above the original olive drab.we matched the colors and repainted the tank in that camo pattern. An article about this restoration should appear in the AMPS "Boresight" magazine soon.
Thanks For The Help,
Mike Siggins |
