| Subject: | Is plastic modelling environmentally responsible? | |
| Date: | May 2, 2007 |
| From: | Terence Teo | |
After stumbling across another carton of my models in my workroom the other day, my wife asked me if I was trying to stockpile my kits in the event of a worldwide plastic shortage. After fending off another attempt to cull my collection, the thought stuck in my head: what if one day it was decreed that the manufacture of plastics of any kind was considered environmentally unacceptable? Think of it: no more model kits, and the ones already manufactured skyrocketing in prices on the blackmarket!. And what about this: actually building them would be considered an environmental crime, because you would have to get rid of all those plastic sprues, and how would that be done without contributing to some environmental impact of a detrimental nature!
I am not sure why this thought is bugging me right now, but what do you all think? Would you give up the hobby if you felt it was contributing to global warming? |
