As a middle aged person who has returned to the hobby after 30+ years, I like the old kits at cheaper prices on e-bay (or other similar sites) to gain modelling skills. I was never that good earlier in life, but getting hold of some of the earlier Tamiya and others' less accurate kits to practise on before I tackle some more intricate kits with photo-etch and resin, is great. Also, attempting to scratchbuild and kit bash is also good experience.
