I agree completely. I'm re-entering the hobby after 20+ years and am using the cheap(er) and simple(r) kits to stretch my modelling muscles (so to speak).
I'm just about finished the first one, a 1/76 Fujimi Pz.1B ... perhaps not the best possible choice to begin with (I found it annoying to build in several respects) but it certainly would have been a disaster if I'd tried something newer and more detailed to begin with!
