As somebody who has returned to modelling after many years away I have quite a few old kits in the loft space.
I realise that many have been overtaken by either upgraded versions from the original maker (yes I have the original Tamiya Kubelwagen and Schwimmwagen kits!) or there are superior detailed versions available from other manufacturers, but how inaccurate are these old kits?
Is it just in the level of detail or is it things like overall dimensions etc. Sure the prices on the boxes are a pittance now, but were alot when I brought them out of my pocket money etc.
I know you'd say "be more specific, as some kits were better than others"
so here is a few I have and was hoping to build.
Italeri Panzer IV J version purchased in the 70's
Italeri German Horch Staff car - they still sell this as I'm sure you know.
Tamiya 1/35 scale German Halftrack with Flak gun on the back. Again from the 70's, with winter clad crew figures (sorry can't remember numbers, not near my collection)
Tamiya 1/35 scale King Tiger, again the first model that came out in the 70's, might even been before then.
Tamiya's orginal 1/25 scale Tiger with the interior. Yes, the interiors very basic, I'd call it toy like and wouldn't consider using it unless I was scratch-building the lot again, but what about the exterior, structure etc.
Tamiya's original 1/25 scale T34.
Can you direct me to any threads, links that would be of help in pointing out what is wrong with these and how to correct them. Rather than sell them on ebay I'd prefer to spend a little on detailing sets(if available) new metal barrels (the King Tigers broken anyway) etc. than just buying new kits and then, it seems to me, you still end up buying detailing sets, new tracks, barrels on brand new offerings.
I'd feel happier paying for some extra items on kits I've already paid for long ago than do the same for kits I went out and paid for now.
