Subject:  Another vintage WW II pictureList thread.

 Date:  Aug 18, 2001
 From:  Kurt Laughlin
I'vw had some questions as to whether the round-shouldered, non-directional,
Military Desert style of tire really existed during WW II. Attached is
information from TM 9-802, "2-1/2 ton Amphibian Truck, 6x6, GMC DUKW-353", 1
September 1943. I also found several wartime references to Military Desert
tires in the Ordnance committee meeting minutes, but I was suddenly overcome
by dry heaves and kinda got knocked off track in my researching. . . (BTW,
note that the DUKW wheels are a different size and style from those on a
CCKW. Yet another group of parts that must be retooled for those who think
that "Tamiya is already halfway there!" with their truck kit.)

This is all rather beside the original point of the thread (What are he
correct WW II-era wheels and tires for the M1 155mm/8-Inch carriage?)
because the correct tires are neither Military Desert nor Mud and Snow but
the commercial Truck and Bus pattern.

Hopefully, we can put this bed once and for all.
