MMmmmm... in person intercourse.....er... hah umm... I pretty much agree with what's been said here, except for one thing. It's not always 'just' a hobby. Not for me at least, because I make something of a living at it selling completed pieces. There are others who make this their business by selling products. But there are still others who may not make a dime on this industry (and let's call it what it is, OK?) but nevertheless have built 'carefully crafted' reputations (as intricate as some of their models), as 'authorities' and otherwise (not me, the only thing I'm an authority at is being a rabble rouser and general pain in the behind). These gentlemen (for they are usually men) are very comfortable with the social strata of this 'hobby' being what it is. New people arrive, and if they're sufficiently useful, talented, and respectful of the 'rules', they're accepted into the strata and frequently carve out niches of their own. Those that don't-- who challenge the 'establishment'--- are distanced, and the fighting begins. If you don't think there are currents and eddies of politics in this pursuit, then you are sadly mistaken.
