Have her watch US football or other sports, and watch for the spectators. If people whom are otherwise (presumably) adults, engaging in adult activities, can STILL be considered adults with some of the bizarre behavior you sometimes see (face painting, wearing ridiculous hats and the like to show team solidarity, etc), then model building isn't a very childish activity in the end...
