Thanks everyone, I ran down all your great suggestions! Jan your idea seemed to work best for me so I ordered and recieved a Fujifilm S700 from Amazon, under $200 overnighted!

So far it's working well. Do you have any experience with the S700 yourself? I think it is the S5700 in Europe.

Here are some shots I took with it just minutes after taking it out of the box.
