When I was a lad I gave up on an Airfix B-17 kit when, after I'd spent what was for me (at that time) a lot of effort on doing up the cockpit as nice as possible, the two halves of the fuselage wouldn't fit around it. That was "the final straw" for me at that time; I stopped building models and moved on to other hobbies.

At around the same time I also stopped building a Tamiya LRDG "Pink Panther", not because I was encountering problems with it, just because I'd lost interest (as above). I wish I still had it now, but I fear my parents tossed it some time after I had moved away from home. Oh well.

Recently I haven't built enough models yet to really want to give up on anything, but I did give up trying to assemble the Kubelwagen that came with the 1/76 Fujimi/Nitto Pz.IB kit. It just resisted going together properly generally, and when I discovered that I had both successfully glued the dashboard in the wrong spot AND lost the steering wheel to the carpet monster, I said rude words and consigned it to the spare parts container.
