I assume your depression comes from seeing the quality of models done by others and not from a poorly judged contest.
Rather than slipping into depression, I look at what the modeler did, make notes and sometimes ask the modelers about the technique. Then I come home and try my hand at that technique.
Or I decide that I'm comfortable which how I build and that modeler is just better or spends more time or does things I either don't want to do or can't!
So have fun...that's what it's all about!
