Hi, Mike:

What gets lost, I think, is that this is only a hobby (sometimes venturing into the territory of idolatry) and for the most part not the study of history. That's where most of the confusion results. A Tiger tank, no matter how cool it looks, is not devoid of context. It was a weapon crewed by men employed in support of a genocidal regime. The Tiger tank, and all other weapons/vehicles etc. were not created in a vacuum for our amusement. We can spend hours debating weld seams and paint schemes and then spend many more recreating them (and I enjoy doing so,) but the end result is called a hobby, and as such, people can choose to delve as deep (or not) into the history that surrounds it. There's nothing wrong with that as long as the hobby isn't then passed off as being something more.

Cheers,

Chris
