The best thing about comparison reviews is that the same reviewer is (generally) applying the same criteria to two or more kits--Terry Ashley being the best example. In reviews by different authors, one may talk about hub caps, another might not. If Terry talks about hub caps, he talks about them on all of the compared kits and shows pictures too.
Comparisons to references and plans are important for people who desire that information, but that doesn't address the quality of the molding, errors, or buildability. Ultimately, most modelers are looking for the best value for their dollar and will appreciate direct side-by-side comparisons evenly applied by one individual.
