It seems to me that the only point for a 1/35th scale plane kit is so that it can be displayed with appropriate 1/35th scale vehicles. That's one of the reasons Tamiya etc. are pushing 1/48th scale armour kits, isn't it, given that 1/48th is a common aircraft kit scale?

If you just want "big scale planes" (i.e., as stand-alone items), well, there are plenty of 1/32nd and even 1/24th offerings.

A 1/35th scale Ju-52 or DC-3 would be interesting for a paratrooper diorama. Even better would be a landed (or crashed) glider kit (picture an Arnhem '44 diorama with British paras, a jeep etc.).

Other than these the only examples I can think of (for WW2 settings) would be planes sitting on an aerodrome with trucks etc. parked nearby -- and of course you could have virtually any aircraft you liked for that sort of thing.

Helicopters of course open up the possibilities a lot more.

Regardless of how you slice it you're talking big dioramas. Even a small plane is bloody big compared to even a tank.
