You can blame Tamiya for 1/35th, I believe. Apparently that scale was chosen because it made their little electric motors fit snugly into the Panther, the first Tamiya armour kit. The success of that drove everything else, including other companies using the same scale.
Airfix tried to buck the trend with their 1/32nd kits, but unfortunately by the time they did it no-one was all that interested. :( |
