Paul,

Here's my 2 cents worth.

USA - Easy, a Sherman! I would suggest the Tasca M4A1. Not most typical of the Sherman (more M4A3 Shermans than any other model) but the best Sherman kit available.

Japan - Type 95 Ha-Go light tank by Fine Molds. It was the most produced Japanese tank during World War II. A second good bet would be the Type 97 Chi-Ha 'Shinhoto' by either Fine Molds (a bit more detail) or Tamiya (very difficult to find right now).

Italy - M13/40 by Italaerei (it's really a M14/41) would be a good one. THe kit is old but very workable. The Model Victoria update makes it into an outstanding kit. If it doesn't have to be a tank the Ab 41 Autoblinda is a nice choice.

Australia - They had some Matida IIs that they modified for their use. THe Tamiya kit is the only game in town in 1/35th scale.

Czech - Tristar 38t or CMK 35t would be good choices. They had some great color schemes but of course their involvment was under the German occupation.

France - Easy, Tamiya's Char B1 bis

Poland - A lot of companies have reissued the kit and it needs some TLC to make it look good but the 7TP would be a good choice.

Soviet Union - Any DML T-34 would work well

Hope that helps.
