Hi Paul , I can only speak for the UK , The amount of money varies from Magazine to magazine, some pay for the full article and others pay by the page. They will of course edit it and may delete or add comments as and when they see fit . If they have two authors writing about the same vehicle , say one on modelling the M2 Half track and an other on M2 history , They usualy hold them over till both are completed and make a special issue . I used to write in the pre PC days and it was hard work on a typewrite . They key is good basic original research which can here in the UK cost more for one photographs copy write than the article pays . This was the main reason why I gave up . To give an example. I wanted to use 4 photos from the IWM archives cost was £6-00 per photo then add on the copy write at the time over £100 . Price for the completed article by the publishers £40-00 . It was not worth it in the end .Others may disgree but only a slave works for nothing cheers ian
