| Subject: | I was afraid this was going to happen | |

I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers. I apolagize to all that have taken offense. Paul, you are not the only person who buys lots of AM stuff. I was mearly using your list as an example. You answered with your "Because I get a lot of fun out of using after-market stuff like Kasten tracks and Aber PE...". Thats a perfectly reasonable answer. I was curious if it was because you thought there was something wrong with the kit and that it needed to be fixed. I might add that alot of us buy after market stuff because we think it will enchance the kit when in reality it will not. In fact the AM stuff may be at times innacurate (wrong length barrels and to thin or thick P.E. comes to mind). I guess what I am saying or asking is "Why do we buy this stuff when the kit really doesn't need it?" Paul, your reason is totally on the mark for you, you "enjoy working with it". I for the most part hate it and would try to do with out it if I can. For awhile there I fell into the "If there is AM stuff for it than the kit must need it" mentality. I have finally weaned myself of that and like I mentioned earlier only get barrels and screens if needed and always get friuls (if they make them for the kit, oh and I often buy resin replacement wheels for kits that have wheels). We moan and groan about high kit prices but then go spend another couple of hundred on AM stuff that really isn't needed. Now in keeping with the intent of the original post my most expensive project was to be (I said "was to be" because I never started building) a Tamiya Pz IV Ausf H back dated to a G. I do not remember the cost of the items but remember them.
Tamiya Kit
Aber Fender set
Aber Pz IVG detail set (for Italeri kit but bought it anyways)
Aber tools and clasp set
Tiger Model Designs Ausf G back date set (I think it was TMD,)
Tristar Pz IV suspension set (to articulate the suspension)
Metal barrel (although the back date set came with a resin barrel)
Friul Tracks (always)
So a couple hundred bucks right there (problem is I don't remember if I bought all the stuff new). Again sorry if I upset anyone.
