Subject:  Respect is EARNED not grantedList thread.

Respect in any area is earned, not granted. Academy actually WAS a pretty respectable company. They earned a good bit of positive notice and attention for their older kits.

Academy's Isreli Merkava II, M113 series, M51 and, Tiger I all were very good for their time, and for the most part still hold up well today. Academy's M12 was very good. That is probably their best armor kit and is very respectable.

But then, for whatever reason, Academy has gotten careless with FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH. Not just in their tanks, but also aircraft kit. They put out kits with a lot of detail but blow basics like shape, outline and proportions. And not just on obscure subjects (actually they do better on those oddly). Its werid that Academy can do a decent kit of a pretty rare vehicle like the M12, but then totally blow something like the M3 Stuart.

So in recent years Academy has put out a rancid M18, poor M10, poorish M36, poor M3 Stuart, poor M3 Lee/Grant, lame M4A2 76mm Sherman, lame M4 Dozer, and poor M7 Priest. Their M551 has to be one of the worst tank models in the last two decades.

It would be a dis service to just say oh yayyyyy Academy! Thank them for what? giving us a bunch of crappy kits? I think not. They deserve criticism for foisting poorly researched and executed kits on the market. AND they don't learn from their mistakes. The M3 Lee suspension was poor and thankfully Academy corrected the sprues for the M7 Priest (the only good point to that kit) BUT did they put the new parts in the Lee or Grant...?? NO.
So how is that respectable?
