I happen to be building the M3 Lee from Academy right now, I am converting it into a Grant using the AMD conversion.

I don't find the kit that bad, there are a few rivets that need re-positioning. These are described in the ABM instructions. The bogies are easy to fix, I am actually just fixing them instead of using the ABM bogies. I don't know about the turret since I am using the Grant turret.

I am having a lot of fun moving the rivets around and stuff too... I get a kick out of that kind of thing :-)

I don't think I would have enjoyed trying to upgrade the old Tamiya Grant though. I have built two of those in the past and the Tamiya 1/32nd scale kit. All-in-all the Academy kit is much better.
