Wow!

Respect?

Do you really think that Academy cares about anyones respect?

Isn't this the company that got their start by stealing several of Tamiya's kits and putting them in Academy boxes in the early 80's?

I don't really think they care at all about respect from anyone that has the type of knowledge about the hobby like the people on this and other similar sites.

I always wonder why people on sites like this can not understand that not everyone CARES about what issues ANY kit has.

I have seen this in real world reality through the situation of being the guy that is behind the counter at a local hobby shop. While it is true that dedicated highly hobby educated modellers are numerous on a world wide scale (like the internet); on a general town to town scale the Track-Linker type is greatly outnumbered by the kids with grandmas birthday money to spend or the guy that just wants to build a model to put on his shelf.

I see threads like this one and I just shake my head at some of the ideas that (at least to me) seem to be in some peoples heads that EVERYONE on the planet knows what Nuts and Bolts is, or who Cookie Sewel or Terry Nichols are. Or even what a scale line drawing is. Or cares about it.
Academy is interested in only one thing. That is sales. I personally am greatful that Academy exists due to the fact that I still worry that without companies like them the hobby will slowly die. The reality is that most plastic kits are purchased with the highest selling point being price, NOT accuracy, or how many pieces are in the box; but the price.

Just the price.

If you can, try to remember when you were a kid and were buying your second or third model kit. Now imagine you had your heart set on a Panther tank. Now imagine that you, like the majority of plastic model buyers, you don't know anything about accuracy of dimensions, scale, details,or any other similar concept, and you are at your local hobby shop and you are looking at the Tamiya Panther G late at about $45-50. The DML Panther D at about $50-55. And the (OH MY GOD NO NO NO NOT THAT ( : - O ))original Tamiya Panther at about $25-30.Which one do you think the average kid will walk out with? When they get it home will they know how bad the tracks are? Does he care that there are little holes in the bottom? Or that the road wheels have the wrong number of bolts for that Ausf? Probably not.Probably never will.

Now imagine you are a kid and were buying your second or third kit, and were at the local hobby shop. Imagine that all that was left in the world were plastic model manufacturers that were primarily concerned with how much respect they had. Then imagine that the cheapest tank model you could find cost $85. BUT!!!!! it had a complete interior with every hatch operational, and photo etch, and a turned aluminum barrel, and a cast brass muzzle break, and indiviudual track links, and (not counting the tracks) 854 pieces in the box.

Then imagine the kid walking to the other side of the mall and instead of a model, buying another game for his X box.

It's great that there are sites like this one and references to let those that want to know, what any issues with a particular kit are.I appreciate that there are many that know what is right and wrong with a kit and let others like me know so we (I) can decide if it is worth it or not.

Now back to the original question. No personally I don't have any respect for a company that started life as a pirate and does things like release the kit with the wrong bogie assembly when they know it is wrong and have the correct pieces in the inventory. But I really think they don't care,I'm sure they wouldn't mind; but if I don't they probably still wont care because while I probably will not buy one, they will sell sufficient numbers of the kit to people that will never know or care about it.If you doubt this, go back up and read Matt's post and try to realize that guys like him are the average (outnumbering us by about 10-1, maybe more)modeller. Read again what he thinks about Academy kits.

By the way while I may not respect them, I have a couple of their kits somewhere in my garage. : - O
