Timely post - I'm working on completing the Alan Ardelt Waffentrager, a kit I was hoping to just build OOTB, but after getting into it, soon discovered the kit was pretty lacking. I was thankful to (for possibly the first build ever) have all the tools I needed to make modifications/improvements. I appreciate the "old skool" comments, but I am discovering that the old adage is most definitely true - the right tool makes any job easier. In this case:
Plastic and Brass Rod (Not technically a tool, but man, did it make a difference)
A Pin Vise with a nice assortment of bits (Great cheap investment)
A nice set of Xactos with an arseload of SHARP blades
My Wife's nail file
My Wife's emory board (shhhhh on the last 2!)
Some Tamiya Putty (Finally getting the hang of this stuff)
A handy set of mini pliers/clippers (Lowes - 12 bucks for a set of 5 or 6 which I ALWAYS use - check them out when you're browsing - beats ANY "modelling tools" store's deal
Tenax plastic weld - LOVE this stuff - smells awesome and makes the time flllllyyyyyyy.....
Superglue + Instant bonder
Q-Tips
Paper Towels
plasticard

I think that's it so far.

My finished kit will hardly be a masterpiece, but I am well pleased at my foray into scratching some new details. I still have some soldering I'd like to try. Also (off topic) my best result ever with link to link tracks - thanks to pointers from youse guys. I've got a ways to go on this beast, but I have found that without these tools, I would have been sunk.
