Hi Paul,

I've been buying quite a number of KV photographs over past few years, and my experience matches that of the folks who've posted above. Place your bids late, don't get crazy with your maximum bids, and be patient since a lot of photos do come up multiple times.

Also, remember that a lot of the stuff comes from German sources and not all the sellers speak good English so be prepared to use a translator like Babelfish when communicating with sellers over payments etc. I've had one or two misunderstandings but it's all worked out well in the end.

I've been collaborating with sudek13, aka The Archive of Modern Conflict, for some months now. I visited with one of their curators, showed him the manuscript for my book and gained an understanding of their aims. Basically, they are setting up a large photo archive that will be digitized and web-accessible, providing access for authors and historians to do research.

They agreed to help me with photographs for the book, and in return I'm donating my own originals to the Archive after I've scanned them. The problem of what to do with the photos after I've used them for the book is something that had bothered me for a while. Placing them into an archive collection like this is an ideal solution since they're available to other researchers in the future, and I still get to use them for my own work. I'm also helping the Archive staff to caption and catalog their KV collection, so it's a win-win situation.

Cheers,

Neil
