Hey Gang,

I have been pondering over the question of quality and detail of kits. There are many posts on many sites debating similar kits [from different manufacturers] as to which is better. The phrase to the defense of some kits lately with so called detail errors has been: "If it looks like a duck and swims like a duck and even quacks like a duck, then it is a duck."

I have a question for those who use this phrase as a defense to a new tooled kits errors; to me this phrase would mean it's close enough to please me. Taking the Panzer IV kits as an example which have recently caused a lot of this discussion, why do these "Duck" people buy the new tooled "close enough is good enough for me" when the same kit was produced in (I think 1978) and can be had for easilly half the price? If the old kit at half the price which most assuredly does look like a "Duck" is readilly availiable then why even bother buying the more exspensive "Duck"?

To me using this phrase is just a forged way to defend what may be wrong and to poke at the so called "rivet counters". I'm sorry for babbling on I just get irked at times it seems that many like to poke at the "rivet counters" and say it doesnt really matter. To me not buying the older cheaper kit only proves that it really does matter to them.

Just my two cents on a debating issue of modeling on a rainy day. Have a great day one and all and keep modeling.

Brian
