Well, being the only one watching my finished models at home, with my 2yr old sone who couldn't care less whether it is accurate or not (he just wants a turn and that might mean the end of the finished model) I guess my answer is that it doesn't realy matter.
Now, being more serious, I think it is good to get old kits when you're learning, even if wrong in shape and dimensions. But if you're an advanced modeller then go for the most expensive new ones!! I really love the new stuff... you can't compare old ESCI kits with the newest Dragon offers. I build mostly 1/72 and the difference is enormous... so why not?
I seriously think that stuff like Dragon's kits are great value for money.
I have a vintage Nichimo Panther G 1/35 unfinished just because the work needed to correct its many flaws is just too much...
