I took a few years off building Armor back in the early 90's and did only figures. With figures you paint most everything on the figure and shade it etc, so after learning how to paint figures I paint my tanks like I would a figure. All the parts are shaded as a figure and work as one piece of art. When I paint and weather a tank I look at it as if i was going to paint it on canvas so Its not a mechanical process but a rendering of color placed as I would on a canvas painting.
I would not paint a road wheel black on a canvas painting so my road wheels are washes so the high-light color shows though eliminating dry-brushing. Since the tank gets weathered in the out doors all parts can get painted and weathered as one unit, dirt does not choose what it will get on so you can paint an weather after the model is all complete. The only time I paint before completion is interior items that I cannot get to after the model is complete. So to answer your question nothing is left off I paint it all in place...".if you can see it you can paint it"....i think Shep Paine said that ; )
