In arond 1966 or 1967. My dad bought me a Revell USS Coral Sea, the ship he was on and I was hooked on model building since then (I was 7). Throughout the remainder of the 60's and into the 70's, I mainly built Monogram's 1/48 line of aircraft. Remember those? The ones with the retractable landing gear, folding wings, bombs that dropped from bomb bays that opened up (same with torps).
Then, I discovered Monograms line of armor kits, starting with the Mk IV. I built that, the Wirbelwind, the Brummbar, the Jadgpanzer, the Weasel, M3 and M13 Halftrack, jeep with 37mm, 6x6 truck......then I found the Shep Paine Monogram kits with the Dio brochure, and I built them all over again. The B17, B24.....
Tamiya? Who's that? Those were kits in teh expensive stores that I couldn't afford.
I went into the Navy in 1977 and stopped doing models until I retired in 1997. Picked up the hobby again and was absolutely amazed at what I saw the first time I stepped into a hobby shop.
Academy, DML, Italeri, Zvesda, some others that escape me now, and of course Tamiya.
I rarely build Tamiya stuff, usually DML, Italeri and some Revell and Monogram. |
