Paul,
I was an Army Brat and grew up around all sorts of military equipment. My father was in combat in WWII Europe-Korea-and Viet Nam.Plus various little places not in the official record. He was a sergeant for most of his career-and as we moved around I got to "play" on many old and interesting tanks and canon from around the world.Ohhhh if only I had a camera then.
As a young boy I built everything from Godzilla kits to all those 25 cent aircraft in a plasric bag kits.
I had lots of those old plastic army men sets from Marx and needed lots of tanks as support for the infantry. When Monogram came out with the first of their 1/32nd scale armor kits I was in heaven.
As the years went by I find I still tend to build with an eye towards placing the finished kit(s) in a diorama or vignette-a therapist will point to my need to continue my childhood no doubt.
I enjoy studying the details of the various vehicles but while I enjoy the great amount of knowledge/info/phots we have these days,I still think of myself as a builder with a touch of detail nerdism, and not a primary student/collector-though the stash is obscene these days.
I prefer kits of vehicles that have actualy seen combat operations, and especialy like any range of WWII .I buzz like a bee from Early War -the "what were the thinking?"-kits to all the various theatres,so I don't get burned out on any one theme.
I am interested in all the theaters and all the sides involved, the Germans had the most varied equipment list so they seem to get the nod quite a bit,but I am quite happy with the numbers of kits and choices we have these days.
Kind of a long winded way of saying"blame Sheppard Payne" I guess
That's my story and I'm sticky
