YOu have touched upon a rather sensitive issue to those among us that are NEw Yorkers. I have lived almost 60 years in NYC and have been a model maker for about 40 of them.

Back then you had a choice of Hobbty SHops from one end of the city to the other. Polks, ACE and a few others right in the heart of Manhattan and every other neighborhood in the outer boros had at least one good Hobby Shop. Very, very few remain. There is one over in the Throgs Neck section ( Bruckner Hobbies ) that has a wide selection of all things from Models to RC Controlled and so on.

But for the most part anyone in NYC that still remains active in the Hobby has to use the Internet.

Jans on Lexington in the 90's still survives with a crowded but good seletion of kits ( rather expensive ) but you are in Manhattan.

Even when you get into the suburbs Hobby Shops that eal in scale models are hard to find, Modle Railroad seems to be more prevelant out there.

Good Luck on your trip and I hope you find something you have been looking for
